A new chapter in our Reconciliation journey

We are really excited to have launched our third Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) on Wednesday 13 August 2014, at our Lanyon Youth and Community Centre. A RAP is a tool designed by Reconciliation Australia to help organisations build positive relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the wider Australian community.
Our RAP formalises YWCA Canberra’s commitment to Reconciliation with Indigenous Australians and identifies clear actions and targets to meet in this work. Excitingly, our third RAP is a ‘stretch RAP’, which means YWCA Canberra has successfully embedded the principles and practices of Reconciliation into our everyday business, and can now focus on increasing our activities and setting more ambitious targets.
At our RAP launch, after a beautiful welcome to country from Ngunnawal elder, Aunty Agnes, we heard from Executive Director of YWCA Canberra Frances Crimmins about our RAP journey, and our continued commitment to Reconciliation.
She said, ‘Our method is to include everyone in the conversation – it’s like saying, “Don’t have a conversation about us without us.”’
