YWCA Canberra is pleased to again offer the opportunity for members to undertake a Board Traineeship in 2024. Applications for the Board Traineeships are open until 5pm on Friday 18 October 2024.
Our Board Traineeship program, which began in 2002, is an integral part of our commitment to building leadership pathways for young women and non-binary people. The program provides our members with the opportunity to actively participate on our Board, without the financial or legal responsibilities of being directors.
The Board Traineeships program is underpinned by our commitment to quotas, with 30 per cent of our board positions being held by young women aged 30 years or under. This ensures that we maintain a culture of diversity on our board and foster an intergenerational dialogue that guides the work we do.
The Board Traineeship program is a valuable professional development opportunity and is a pathway in
supporting women’s leadership as Board Directors. It has tangible outcomes, with many of the trainees going on to be elected as Board Directors at YWCA Canberra and other organisations.
Applications for the Board Traineeships are open until 5pm on Friday 18 October 2024.
You must be a YWCA Canberra member to apply.
Before applying, you should read our Board Traineeship information pack, and Board conflict of interest and duty policy. Then apply by completing the application form and returning it to governance@ywca-canberra.org.au.
If you have any questions, you can call us on 02 6185 2000 or email governance@ywca-canberra.org.au.
The Board Traineeship program is part of YWCA Canberra’s commitment to addressing the gender pay gap and increasing diversity on boards. Diversity in an organisation and its board results in improved decision-making, a better functioning board and wide organisational improvements. However, Australian boards are still significantly lacking in diversity.
With our Board Traineeship program being one of the only ones in Australia, we have developed Bringing on Board, a publication that outlines the critical steps to develop and implement such a program so that other organisations can take active steps towards gender equality and increased diversity.
