YWCA Canberra has a tradition of using International Women’s Day to focus on the lives and stories of Canberra women. Please see some of our work below.
For International Women’s Day 2023, YWCA Canberra started a conversation about ‘cracking the code’ to meaningful wages growth in the early childhood education and care sector.
‘A single story, a world of difference’ focuses on women leading change for gender equality by sharing the experiences of local women involved in advocacy.
In 2021, we developed a short documentary featuring three local women. The video explores how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted gender equality and women’s economic security and wellbeing.
For International Women’s Day 2020, we further explored the shocking statistics in Our lives: women in the ACT about the lived experiences of women in Canberra by interviewing three young women on the topic of sexual harassment. Their stories are candid, all too familiar, but nonetheless saddening and impactful.
We continue to call for relationships and sexuality education to be implemented in ACT schools and universities to help eliminate discrimination and violence against women.
