Staff Snapshot – Megan Steele

28 February 2017

At YWCA Canberra, we’re really proud of the vibrancy and diversity of our staff team. We’ll be bringing you regular staff snapshots so you can meet our team and find out a bit more about the people behind our programs and services. Today, meet Megan Steele.

Tell us about your role at YWCA Canberra.

I am YWCA Canberra’s Graphic Designer and work as part of the Communications, Advocacy and Fundraising team. As the graphic designer, I work on a variety of projects and activities, such as online media, advertising, project guides, posters, events, displays and corporate communications and identity, i.e. growing the YWCA Canberra visual ‘brand’. I’m a maker. I make things.

What’s on your playlist?

*Currently on repeat*

  • Theophilus London
  • Miike Snow
  • Tash Sultana
  • The Moana soundtrack

When you’re not at work, what’s your relaxation activity of choice?

I’m not quite sure if it would be considered relaxing to other people but I love boxing and kick-boxing as a way to keep fit and relax. It also makes you feel totally fierce, so really everyone should box!

What’s the best concert that you’ve ever been to?

It’s a tie: Green Day at Wembley Stadium London in 2010 and Mumford and Son’s Gentlemen of the Road tour in Sydney in 2015. Both very different experiences but equally amazing.

If you got a free around the world ticket, where would you go?

JAPAN. Just all of Japan. Then from there, I’d see as much of the world as I could before heading home to Australia.

What makes you proud to work at the Y?

I love that the work we do here has an impact on the lives of others, that it has meaning and purpose and soul. In my role, I get to work with almost every team at the Y at some point, and each time I see how much they care and love what they do in the hard work they produce, it makes me proud to contribute to that in my own small way.
