Early Childhood Services

At YWCA Canberra, we understand that the experience of childhood is a unique journey. We value childhood as important in the present, as well as providing the foundation for all future learning and development.

Our aim is to provide children and families with a sense of belonging through ensuring a safe, supportive, respectful and inclusive environment.

Our role is to develop and create, rich, engaging play-based learning environments which are reflective of children’s interests and allow for exploration. We ensure this by providing children with the skills and experiences needed to develop as lifelong learners and to become competent, active and informed individuals.

Our educators uphold the professional standards and values of the Early Childhood Australia Code of Ethics, as well as the principles and practices of the National Quality Framework.

Our Educational Programs are designed to promote children’s holistic development, whilst being reflective of the United Nations Convention on the rights of the Child.

Our services are fully licensed, and assessed and rated by the ACT Governments regulatory body, Children’s Education and Care Assurance (CECA).

Educational Program

Our qualified Early Childhood Educators are committed to supporting each child’s individual learning and development. Our dedicated Educational Leaders and Early Childhood Teachers actively drive the curriculum process, and design programs that reflect the needs of their families and community.

Our Educational program is inspired by the children; their interests, their voices and their ideas, with a vision to develop life-long learners.

We use Xplor as a platform to share educational documentation with our families. Xplor encapsulates our educational program as well as information about your child’s daily routine. Families receive updates on their child’s daily information and learning in real time. Xplor provides our families with the opportunity to provide feedback and actively engage in our services.

Am I eligible for the Child Care Subsidy (CCS)?

The Child Care Subsidy is a payment from the government designed to assist families with reducing the cost of childcare. CCS is available to a parent, foster parent or grandparent with a child that is attending an approved child care service.

Click here for information about your eligibility and entitlements for the Child Care Subsidy.

Will I have to pay a bond?

An enrolment bond of $250 per child for full-time bookings (5 days) or $150 per child for part-time bookings (1-4 days) will be applied to your account on the commencement of your booking. The bond is refunded back to you when each child leaves the service.

How do I pay my fees?

Fee payments are made via Debit Success, who provide two easy methods of payment:

  • Option one: A direct debit from your nominated bank account.
  • Option two: Payment by credit card.

Bpay transactions are also accepted. Details of the biller code and reference number appear on the bottom of each family statement.

A one-off payment can be made by credit card by contacting Child Care Accounts on 02 6185 2040.

Please note: A 1.87% charge will apply for all credit card transactions.

Will I be charged for days that my child is absent?

Your position will be held for you during periods of absence. As such, normal session fees will apply for all absences that fall on your regular days of attendance. The Family Assistance Office will cover the CCS entitlements for the first 42 absent days, per child. Thereafter, you will not receive CCS for non-attendance, unless a medical/carers certificate is provided.

Please be aware that if you hold a permanent booking that falls on a public holiday, a normal session fee will apply.

Do I need to provide notice to change or withdraw my booking?

2 weeks’ notice is required to reduce or withdraw your permanent booking. Notice in writing must be provided to your Centre Director and Childcare accounts.

Please note, your child must attend their first and last day of care for you to receive your CCS entitlements. If your child is absent on their first or last day of care, full fees will apply.

There is no notice period required to increase your booking. An increase in your booking will be subject to availability.

My 2-year-old twins have been attending YWCA Conder for 6 months now.  All of the educators at the centre have been amazing. I could not fault the centre or the care given to my children. Their communication, professionalism and their friendly personalities have been faultless. They are always so welcoming and are happy to have a chat. The centre is clean, the food is nutritious and yummy, and the outside play area is big and is lots of fun for the kids. I would highly recommend this centre” – Ashlie

“My two-year-old daughter always looks forward to the days she goes to YWCA Conder. The staff really make an amazing effort with the kids to ensure their day is full of variety and each time I collect her, they keep me up to date on how her day went. The outdoor area is also really spacious compared to a lot of other centres, giving the kids a lot of room to run around. I highly recommend this centre due to the space, the friendly staff and the enjoyment my child has when she attends” – Carmen

“We have been a part of YWCA Conder for 6 years now with my 3 children attending since babies. The educators have always been welcoming and communicated regularly about the activities from the day. They have always been very accommodating towards particular routines and food intolerances.  My children have always enjoyed the activities, excursions and community involvement. A great Centre which I will continue to recommend!” – Jemma

“I have two kids who have been in care at  Campbell Cottage for about a year and they and I love it.

My daughter had severe separation anxiety when she started as this was her first care away from home. The extremely friendly carers worked with her (and me!) with the utmost care to help her get settled and to be comfortable. You wouldn’t recognise her now, sometimes I have to encourage her to leave!

We love the open and outdoor spaces for play, and the activities (art and craft, gardening, music/dancing etc.) It always feels relaxed and calm and the communication from the team is great” –  Melanie

“My children have been attending this centre for over a year now. I highly recommend this centre to anyone who will listen. Things I love about YWCA’s Conder Child Care Centre are: diverse, caring and kind educators; a focus on the child’s learning and enjoyment (I love that my kids come home happy and messy); and the ‘family’ atmosphere of the centre (siblings visit one another and play together in the joint playground). I have had children in all the rooms (Baby, Toddler, Pre-School) and they are all wonderful. If your child attends pre-school at Charles Conder Primary they are able to walk your child over on a half day (brilliant!). To top it off it is fantastic value for money. I feel very blessed to drop my children off each morning and know that they are in safe hands, and will have a great day” – Hayley
