YWCA Canberra’s Family Day Care provides professional and supervised care for children from birth to 12 years of age, in the private homes of qualified and professional family day care educators, who are employees of YWCA Canberra. All our educators hold, or are working towards, a Certificate III in Children’s Services. They are also required to have a current Working with Vulnerable People Card, and current first aid training.
Our Family Day Care Scheme is organised and supported by YWCA Canberra’s Central Coordination Unit. The Coordination Unit, when identifying an educator to provide care, works with families to ensure that children’s and family’s individual needs are met. They arrange replacement care for families if their regular educator is unavailable to provide care. Families pay childcare fees directly to the Coordination Unit. Childcare benefits and the child care rebate are available to eligible families to reduce the cost of care.
In 2014, our wonderful Family Day Care Educator, LiXue (Amy) Mann was the recipient of the ACT Education and Care Gala Award for Excellence in Practice and Pedagogy for family day care. Read more in this blog post.
YWCA Canberra educators are supported by professional and experienced coordinators, who monitor safety, children’s development, and educational programs provided for children. Programs are developed to reflect the interests, needs and cultures of the children in care. Coordinators ensure that educators adhere to the standards and regulations set out in the National Quality Framework.
Educators attend regular in-service training sessions, and have access to additional support services, such as playgroups, a toy library, and equipment loans.
