School age education and care

Do you want a career helping the next generation develop and grow? Are you looking to improve your skills working with school age children? Or are you looking for a rewarding part-time or casual job?

The Certificate IV in School Age Education and Care (CHC40113) prepares you to work with school age children as educators in outside school hours care and vacation programs.

As an educator, you will support the implementation of an approved learning framework, could work under direct supervision or autonomously, and may have responsibility to supervise volunteers or other staff.

Once you’ve completed a Certificate IV in School Age Education and Care, you could also graduate with a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care by doing just one more module. When you get both qualifications, it expands your career options, enabling you to work with babies and toddlers in early childhood services as well as with school age children.

There are lots of career options for people with qualifications in school age education and care. You could become a centre director, an accredited trainer, work for a regulator, or even become a consultant working with services to improve their rating and assessment outcomes.

We offer on-the-job training, flexible learning plans, and mentoring workshops to help you meet your course competencies quicker and easier.

We are passionate about providing quality professional development to people who are entering or currently working in the school age education and care sector. Our students gain a nationally recognised qualification.

This qualification includes 19 units of competency (15 core units and four elective units). To complete the Certificate IV in School Age Education and Care, you must show competence in all 19 units, plus a compulsory work placement of a minimum of 120 hours in a regulated school age care service.

YWCA Canberra delivers a range of school age care programs, so where possible we try to find placements for students in our services.
