You’re invited to come and celebrate International Women’s Day 2020 with YWCA Canberra.
Join us for a conversation with four women leaders from diverse ages and backgrounds who will discuss the realities and impacts of sexism and sexual harassment in public spaces. After the conversation, there will be time to mingle and enjoy morning tea.
Our 2019 survey Our Lives; Women in the ACT captured nearly 1100 responses and found that 54 per cent of women had experienced sexism in the past 12 months. For women aged 18-24 that proportion was 80 per cent and for many, the workplace was the site of these experiences.
At YWCA Canberra we believe that primary prevention at the community level is critical to eliminating violence against women. Whether it’s the school yard, the university or the workplace institutions, public institutions have a role to play in changing this story.
International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination of those women who steer our communities closer towards greater gender equality.
This year’s theme #EachForEqual is about how we are all part of a bigger whole, and we each have the opportunity to choose to ‘challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women’s achievements’. Collectively, we can each help to create a gender equal world.
