Our She Leads In-Conversation events provide Canberrans with the opportunity to hear from women leaders from different backgrounds and industries, in a conversational format, followed by a live Q&A session and networking.
Join us on Wednesday 22 November from 6-8pm, to hear from Virginia Haussegger AM In-Conversation with Jane Alver. The conversation will discuss gender equality and equity as it relates to women and girls in not only an Australian context, but also an international one.
Virginia Haussegger AM is a passionate women’s advocate and communication specialist. She is also an award-winning television journalist, writer and commentator, whose extensive media career spans more than 25 years. Virginia has reported from around the globe for leading current affair programs, and for the past 15 years, she has anchored the ABC’s flagship TV News in Canberra. She is a widely-published writer and columnist, and in 2016 was appointed to head a new gender equality initiative, the 50/50 by 2030 Foundation, at the University of Canberra.
Virginia has served on a number of boards and committees including; UN Women National Committee Australia; the Snowy Hydro SouthCare Trust, and the Australia Forum Steering Committee. She currently sits on the Board of the ACT Government’s Cultural Facilities Corporation; Women in Media Canberra; and is Patron of the Canberra Rape Crisis Centre.
Jane Alver is an Australian lawyer, activist, PhD candidate, and gender equality advocate. Jane has worked as a private sector and public sector lawyer in Australia, England and Kiribati for 20 years and is an admitted solicitor in all three jurisdictions. She has been a senior public servant for the Attorney General and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet in Australia. She has provided technical assistance and training and legislative reform assistance on behalf of the Australian government in Australia, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Samoa, Nauru, PNG, Federated States of Micronesia, and Fiji.
Jane has serves as a Director of the YWCA Australia National Board, Chair of a school board, and Director of QE2 private hospital helping families and young children. She has served as the President of the Women Lawyers Association NSW, President YWCA Canberra, Vice President YWCA Sydney, Director Australian Youth Policy & Action Coalition and the legislative adviser for the Australian National Council for Women.
