I am not a member of the YWCA Canberra. Can I apply for a grant?
You must be a YWCA Canberra member to receive a Great Ydeas grant. You can sign up today.
I am not a young woman aged 30 or under. Can I apply for a grant?
Yes, applicants can be any age for the YWCA Canberra grants. Specific partner grants may have an age limit, which is outlined in the eligibility requirements for each grant.
I previously received a YWCA Canberra Great Ydeas Grant. Can I apply again?
No, you must not have previously received a YWCA Canberra Great Ydeas grant to apply.
A group of friends and I would like to apply for a grant but we are not part of a formal organisation. Can we apply?
Yes, grants are available for individuals or groups. However, one person must nominate to be responsible for the grant. This will include undertaking to sign an agreement, and fulfilling the reporting and acquittal requirements.
I would like to apply for a grant to run an event but I don’t have public liability insurance. What should I do?
YWCA Canberra is no longer able to cover Great Ydeas recipients for public liability insurance. If your project requires public liability insurance, you will need to include the cost in your application.
I would like to apply for a grant to assist me to attend a conference for which I have already registered. Is that OK?
Yes, as long as the activity occurs after applications close. Grants will not be provided for activities that have already occurred prior to the grant funding period.
I am from an established and large not-for-profit, can I apply?
No, only people within or starting grassroots, start-up organisations can apply.
Can I submit my application in hardcopy?
No, all applications must be submitted by completing the online application form and emailing it to governance@ywca-canberra.org.au.
I won’t be able to submit my application form until after the closing date. Will you be granting extensions?
We are unable to offer extensions, due to the assessment process involved. We encourage you to begin your application early and submit prior to the closing date.
When will the grant recipients be announced?
YWCA Canberra will announce successful grant recipients at our annual breakfast in early May 2023. Sign up to our newsletter or check the events page on our website to find out when this will be. We encourage grant applicants to attend the breakfast. Tickets can be purchased on our website closer to the event.
What is the most I can apply for?
$2500 is the maximum amount provided to a grant recipient. Partner grants may offer less than this. You can apply for less than $2500.
I have never applied for a grant before. Will this be a problem?
Great Ydeas grants are aimed at women who may not have had the opportunity to participate in a grants program before. There is no disadvantage in applying for a Great Ydeas grant if you haven’t done so before.

Who should I approach to be a referee?
A referee is someone who is able to vouch for your project or your ability to undertake this kind of project. For example, they could be a current or former employer, a teacher/trainer/lecturer who knows you well, or someone you have worked with in a volunteer capacity.
Should I include GST when identifying costs for the grant?
Yes, in most cases GST will need to be included for the costs associated with your project.
