Launching a Great Ydea with the Phoenix Sisters

YWCA Canberra’s Great Ydeas Small Grants Program provides grants up to $2500 to support women, girls and non-binary people in the ACT to pursue their passions and improve our community.
Since launching in 2019, the program has helped more than 60 local women and girls to progress projects including establishing a podcast, launching a public awareness campaign, running empowering programs for girls, attending a conference and launching a social enterprise.
Earlier this year at our annual Innovation Breakfast, we had the honour of announcing this year’s Great Ydeas grant recipient winners. In partnership with Beyond Bank, we were thrilled to present Zainab Farouk, with a Great Ydeas grant to fund her project, Be Your Best!
Be Your Best is a professional development conference for culturally and linguistically diverse women to be delivered by local multicultural women’s support group the Phoenix Sisters.
The one-day conference aims to inspire multicultural women and provide strategies and tools for them to lead and excel in the Australian workplace. Attendees are encouraged to develop long-lasting networks in their local communities to leverage support to help grow and develop their careers. They also have access to ongoing mentoring and networking sessions.
As with most events this year, the conference has unfortunately been postponed until 22 February, 2022. Despite these setbacks, the Phoenix Sisters are still on track to deliver the conference by this revised date. The day is expected to be filled with a jam-packed program including an amazing line up of speakers, workshops and networking opportunities.
The Phoenix Sisters is a volunteer-based network which aims to help people and organisations to understand and cultivate their cultural intelligence through mentoring and support services. They provide insights and ideas to organisational leaders on how cultivate and build Cultural Intelligence in the workplace; and in particular address multicultural women’s issues.
