Over the last few years, the voices of girls demanding a more just and equitable future have resounded across the globe. With Malala Yousafzai and Greta Thunberg as role models, girls are realising their place at the forefront of activism and are using this position to make real and lasting change in our societies.
That’s why we at YWCA Canberra think that this year’s International Day of the Girl theme, “My voice, our equal future”, perfectly sums up our current place in history: this is the time for girls and women to finally have their voices heard.
Closer to home, we are working alongside and supporting girls across the Canberra region to amplify their voices and stand up for their rights.
In our local community, we have been inspired by so many girls and young women and the contributions they are making towards equality and a socially just society. We were lucky enough to talk to three of them about their experiences:
Be inspired by these young women telling their stories on our YouTube channel.
