Partnerships that make a difference -HerCanberra

23 July 2018

At YWCA Canberra, we are fortunate to have built strong partnerships with organisations that support gender equality and women’s leadership. HerCanberra have joined the 2018 She Leads program as a Local Media partner to collaborate in progressing gender equality and raising the status of women. We had a chat to HerCanberra’s Online Editor Beatrice Smith to find out just what they do and why our partnership is so special.

What does HerCanberra do?

We provide platforms across print, online and social media to tell the stories of amazing, inspiring and unsung Canberra people, with a focus on women and girls.

Tell us about yourself and your role at HerCanberra.

I am the Online Editor for HerCanberra and my role encompasses contributor liaison, organisation of our editorial schedule, social media, client management and content creation.

Achieving gender equality in society means something different to everybody; what does it mean to HerCanberra?

To us, it means sharing the stories of women who are leading positive change and encouraging that change across the board.

Why has HerCanberra partnered with the She Leads Conference?

Because we believe that YWCA Canberra’s work is perfectly aligned with ours. As a space for fascinating and inspirational women to share their experiences and advice, the She Leads Conference is the type of event we would like to see more of in Canberra.

The theme of the Conference is Rise: We grow powerful by lifting each other. Why is it important for women to provide support to each other at all levels of the workforce and across all areas of life?

Well aside from a certain Madeleine Albright quote,  we believe there is no room for animosity where there could instead be support, especially as we strive towards equality. Supporting other women, especially in their ventures, achievements and aspirations is such an integral part of HerCanberra and we couldn’t see it any other way.

What part of the Conference are you most looking forward to?

Definitely the keynote speeches, especially Nas Campanella’s. I’ve been following her for some time and can’t wait to hear her speak.
