Partnerships that make a difference – PwC

At YWCA Canberra, we are fortunate to have built strong partnerships with organisations that support gender equality and women’s leadership. PwC have joined the 2018 She Leads program as a Champion partner to collaborate in progressing gender equality and raising the status of women. We had a chat to PwC’s Markets Managing Partner Tom Bowden to find out just what they do, and why our partnership is so special.

What does PwC do?

PwC helps organisations and individuals create the value they’re looking for.

Tell us about yourself and your role at PwC?

I’m the Markets Managing Partner for PwC in Canberra and have responsibility for leading the firm’s ACT strategy. I also hold the position of National Government and Public Sector Leader, where I help State, Territory and Australian governments deliver their priorities.

My family and I moved to Canberra from Sydney last year. We’re thoroughly enjoying the experience of exploring ACT and immersing ourselves in this exciting, vibrant and diverse community.

Achieving gender equality in society means something different to everybody; what does it mean to PwC?

For PwC, gender equality means working towards every person having the opportunity to reach their potential professionally and personally; where opportunities and duties for career and caring are equally distributed and gendered roles become a thing of the past.

PwC is playing its part by encouraging and role modeling different ways of working, and through interventions such as gender targets for leadership recruitment and promotion, and releasing employee gender pay gap data.

Why has PwC partnered with the She Leads Conference?

PwC is pleased to be able to support YWCA Canberra and celebrate our commitments to achieving gender equality. The She Leads conference allows participants to further dedicate time to empowering women and progressing gender equality. PwC are dedicated to progressing gender equality through promoting flexible working, paid parental leave, and by committing to eliminating the gender pay gap.

The theme of the Conference is Rise: We grow powerful by lifting each other. Why is it important for women to provide support to each other at all levels of the workforce and across all areas of life?

Regardless of gender, it’s critical to guide, encourage and uplift women to achieve their professional and personal ambitions. The value of leaders and peers in providing support to women should not be underestimated. These vital networks have the power to influence, promote and champion women as they pursue their goals and overcome adversity.

“Rise” is an important and highly relevant theme. I’m excited to see it come to life through new ideas, collaboration and inspirational stories at the She Leads Conference in 2018.
