Jordan Lim bio picAt YWCA Canberra, we’re really proud of the vibrancy and diversity of our staff team. We’ll be bringing you regular Staff Snapshots so you can meet our team and find out a bit more about the people behind our programs and services. Today, meet Jordan Lim a Communications and Advocacy Officer at YWCA Canberra.

Can you tell us a bit about your role at YWCA Canberra?

I started at the Y in September as a Communications and Advocacy Officer. The role is incredibly varied – but it boils down to promoting the Y and what we do to the community, media, and government, and raising awareness of our advocacy positions .

What’s on your current playlist?

Sufjan Stevens as he’s coming to Canberra next month, and loads of Bowie.

What is the most out-there job you’ve ever had?

Door-to-door sales. Not really ‘out there’, but a great learning experience about how to communicate with very irate people.

If you had to choose a single thing about the Y that makes you proud to work here, what would it be?

The people – everyone is passionate and good at what they do.

When you’re not at work, what’s your relaxation activity of choice?

Walking up Mount Ainslie with a good podcast! Also, my 2016 goal is to read 25 books (have already finished three!), so lazing in the hammock with a book.

Who’s your favourite inspirational woman?

I’m inspired by fearless activists who never give up – Pamela Curr who fights for asylum seekers, and Shelley Argent – a longtime advocate for the LGBTIQ community; to name just a couple.
