About the Role:

Salary from $96,000 plus superannuation and generous charity tax benefits.

The National Women’s Alliances (the Alliances) are funded by the Australian Government to ensure diverse women’s voices are heard in the policy making process. Alliances advocate for the economic security, safety, and leadership opportunities of women in Australia and collaborate with policy makers to inform Australian Government policies that impact women.

Six specialist women’s alliances are funded through the Prime Minister and Cabinet Women’s Leadership and Development Program:

Reporting to the Director, National Women’s Safety Alliance, the Communication and Advocacy Adviser supports the development of NWSA policy positions through communication and advocacy strategies and engages and organises digital events with members and key stakeholders across the country. The role also provides secretariat and administrative support for the NWSA Policy and Advocacy Advisory Committee and two standing Working Groups.

This position represents a unique opportunity to influence the national conversation on women’s safety.

The successful person for this role will:

  • Develop multifaceted public relations and advocacy materials relating to NWSA’s policy and communication priorities.
  • Produce the NWSA members newsletters.
  • Identify opportunities and content for web, social media, traditional media, and blog platforms.
  • Engage with women’s safety organisations, individuals with lived experience and government stakeholders for input into policy and communication information for the Alliance.
  • Provide media advice to the Director, NWSA.
  • Coordinate membership communication and engagement activities and events.
  • Manage and maintain the NWSA CRM and associated information management systems and processes.
  • In partnership with the Director, NWSA develop position statements on the priorities of NWSA.
  • Coordinate digital events and forums for the members of NWSA.
  • Provide secretariat and administrative support to the NWSA Policy and Advocacy Advisory Committee and Working Groups.
  • Contribute to the contract reporting requirements of the NWSA.


About You:

You will be a high caliber candidate with tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in communications and public relations or social policy, advocacy and government relations.   You will also bring:

  • Exceptional written communication skills, including the ability to write a range of publications for different audiences and using different platforms.
  • Exceptional verbal and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a diverse range of people.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to work with senior leaders.
  • Strategic thinking skills, including the ability to critically analyse and problem-solve.
  • Sound understanding of women’s safety issues.
  • An understanding of social media as a method of advocacy.
  • Strong project management skills including the ability to multitask, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
