As we begin to move into the colder months, we understand that not everyone has access to basic needs such as warm clothes and blankets. At YWCA Canberra, we are doing everything in our power to help provide our clients with goods and services to help them get through these winter months.
Last week, our Next Door staff put out an announcement among the community calling for blankets and basic goods to donate towards our older women clients. We received an outstanding response from the community, particularly from knitters and crocheters who were kind enough to donate several blankets to give to our older women clients.
Our Next Door client support worker Pam, was kind enough to drop these blankets off to each of our Next Door clients. While delivering these goods, each of the women that she visited was overwhelmed and delighted to receive such beautiful care packages.
“Their smiling faces were a reward in themselves to see the appreciation during such a difficult time.” Pam shared.
Among the items donated, we also created an activity booklet to those in isolation. Things included in the booklet are activities, puzzles and reading material for older people and external resources of relevance to our older women.
Through this time of isolation, we have witnessed some of the kindest and most generous acts shared among our community. We would like to thank those of you who have donated your time in helping us create a safer, more inclusive environment for our clients.
