On Tuesday 15 September, Mura Lanyon Youth and Community Centre and Lanyon High School hosted a celebration to mark the end of the 2015 Lanyon Literacy Program.
Developed in 2012 in partnership with the University of Canberra, Lanyon High School and Mura Lanyon Youth and Community Centre, the program aims to develop and maintain strong literacy skills of students.
Students, staff, parents and other invited guests attended to celebrate the achievements of the eight young graduates. The program ran over 20 weeks during the school term, with students meeting each Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning at Mura Lanyon Youth and Community Centre.
During the program, students had the opportunity to attend two excursions. One was a visit to the Dymocks store located in the Tuggeranong Hyperdome, and during this excursion students were able to select a book to take home with them. The second excursion was to the local library located in Tuggeranong.
During the celebration, students showcased their work through a book of stories they had developed and were each presented with a certificate of completion and a novel take home.
