YWCA Canberra Youth Program offers a free school holiday program during each school break, which includes activities at the Clubhouse and the Mura Lanyon Youth and Community Centre, as well as excursions around Canberra. During the April school holidays, we ran our school holiday program focusing on creativity, connection, and new experiences.
During the first week of holidays, young people enjoyed a bounty of creativity with beading, painting, and creating Hama bead masterpieces at the Lanyon Youth Centre. Mario Kart and Roblox were also popular, as was our newly refurbished pool table.
In week two, we saw even more creative projects at our Clubhouse Drop-In where we took part in tie-dying and music production, even writing songs of our own!
This week we also took a trip to Zone Bowling and Limelight, where we watched the new Tom and Jerry movie. Our young people loved it, and it even brought on a little bit of nostalgia for the youth team as well!
Our Clubhouse program is now open Monday and Thursday from 3 pm – 6 pm at Richardson Primary School. On Tuesday (3 pm-7 pm), Wednesday (3 pm-6 pm) and Friday (3 pm-5 pm) you can find us running Clubhouse from the Lanyon Youth Center. A-Z program is also re-commencing, now located at the Lanyon Youth Centre on Tuesdays from 5 pm – 7 pm. With our young women’s leadership program Y-Aspire, Reconciliation Week, art murals and projects, Erindale college expo, Lake Tuggeranong College expo, the MLYCC 20th anniversary, casework, and outreach, we are rearing to go for another term of connecting with young people.
