Youth engagement team puts the ‘cool’ in ‘school holidays’!

23 February 2021

YWCA Canberra Youth Program offers a free school holiday program during each school break which includes activities at the Clubhouse and the Mura Lanyon Youth and Community Centre, and excursions around Canberra.

This January, we ran our school holiday program focusing on creativity and connection. During the first week of holidays, young people enjoyed a bounty of creativity with beading, painting, and creating Hama bead masterpieces at the Lanyon Youth Centre. We also ventured out to Zone Bowling with the young people who were able to showcase their ten pin bowling skills by knocking out multiple strikes!

In week two, we saw even more creative projects at the MLYCC drop in, along with a trip to the cinema where we watched The Croods 2. Further through the week, we joined forces with Woden Youth Service and the Multicultural Youth service, where we got together and cooked up a storm in the kitchen donning our Master Chef hats.

Just because the school holidays are over, doesn’t mean the fun has to stop! Our Clubhouse program is now open Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 3 pm–6 pm.

Join us on Tuesdays, as we run the Clubhouse from the Lanyon Youth Center from 3-6 pm. Our drop-in at the Lanyon Youth Centre on Mondays from 3 pm – 5 pm. Our A-Z program is also re-commencing, at the Lanyon Youth Centre on Tuesdays from 5 pm – 7 pm.

With our young women’s leadership program Y-Aspire, the TCC Youth Forum, International Women’s Day murals, Lake Tuggeranong expo, She Leads College, casework, and outreach services, YWCA Canberra’s youth engagement team is rearing for another jam-packed term of connecting with young people!
