Youth Engagement Team wins $20,000 Chief Ministers Charitable Fund grant

3 July 2019

A huge congratulations to our AMAZING Youth Engagement team who have been awarded a $20,000 Chief Ministers Charitable Fund Grant. This grant will see YWCA Canberra pilot a work skills program to build the capacity, confidence and skills of young LGBTIQ* people in Canberra.

This pilot program will be run through our established A -Z group, a weekly social and emotional support group for LGBTQI* young people, aged 14-25, in Tuggeranong. It will include the development of an employers resource which will increase awareness and understanding of the issues and considerations needed to be a safe and inclusive employer of LGBTIQ* people.

The program will also educate these young people about their workplace rights and responsibilities and will include the development of an employer’s resource to help educate Canberra employers about how to be an inclusive and safe employer of LGBTIQ* people.

The Chief Ministers Charitable Fund in partnership with Hands Across Canberra is aimed at addressing the needs of vulnerable people by supporting and working with charitable organisations and social enterprises in the ACT.  A big thank you to the Chief Minister and Hands Across Canberra for their continued support of our work.
