2024 Great Ydeas Small Grant Winner
The CALD Voices in STEM podcast aims to amplify the voices of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) women in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
Chloe’s objective includes highlighting the diverse perspectives, experiences, and contributions of CALD women, fostering inclusivity in STEM, and inspiring the next generation of diverse scientists and innovators.
1.) What inspired you to apply for the Great Ydeas Small Grant?
There are many women in STEM based in Canberra who have made remarkable contributions in science, regardless of the role they are in. The grant was a great opportunity to support the podcast project at a local level and serve as a catalyst for scientific engagement, community empowerment, and social cohesion in Canberra.
2.) What advice would you give to someone considering applying for a Great Ydeas Small Grant to bring their ideas to life?
A good grant application needs to showcase the need for the project, how it will be executed, and the benefit for the community, in alignment with YWCA Canberra’s mission. Having clarity around these things and presenting it concisely will improve the chances of getting the decision makers to fund your project.
3.) Since receiving the grant, what are some standout moments or successes you’ve experienced with CALD Voices in STEM?
Being able to connect with various women and share their stories is still what makes it worth doing. When a listener shares that they are enjoying the podcast and cannot wait for the next episode, I feel satisfied that I have impacted their life through the beauty and power of storytelling.
4.) If you could share one key takeaway or insight with listeners and readers about pursuing grants for meaningful projects, what would it be?
It can be disappointing when you are not successful in getting a grant. But if you believe that your project is meaningful and beneficial to your community, then keep applying for grants to help make your project a reality. The more you apply, the more feedback you receive on improving your application, the greater the chances you have in getting a grant in the future. Don’t give up!
