Early childhood education and care (ECEC) offers the opportunity to have a fulfilling career working with children as they undertake their journey from infancy to childhood.
With CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care you will learn industry best practice in educating and caring for children to help you make the most of your career and tailor your educational programs.
With this qualification, you can become an educator in an early childhood service, working with children as they undertake their journey from infancy to childhood. This is the first step into a range of potential careers.

Our training includes face-to-face group training, online content delivery, mentoring sessions, workplace training and practical placements. We aim to be flexible in your learning and adjust to help you more quickly and easily meet your course competencies.
YWCA Canberra provides quality professional development to people who are entering or currently working in the early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector. As a provider of ECEC services ourselves, our trainers have current sector knowledge to help you understand the role and realities of working in the sector.
We focus on our students’ needs and support them to achieve their career development goals. Our supportive, caring trainers provide mentoring and coaching, and with access to wrap-around support through our Community Services programs, we can help you overcome barriers to your study so you can achieve your goals.
Curriculum
To complete the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, you must show competence in all 17 units, plus a compulsory work placement of a minimum of 180 hours in a regulated education and care service. These units include:
Foundation learning and practices
- CHCECE034: Use an approved learning framework to guide practice
- CHCECE037: Support children to connect with the natural environment
- BSBSUS411: Implement and monitor environmentally sustainable work practices (E)
Health and safety
- CHCECE031: Support children’s health, safety and wellbeing
- HLTWHS001: Participate in workplace health and safety
First aid
- HLTAID012: Provide First Aid in an education and care setting
This module is delivered by a third-party registered training organisation. YWCA Canberra will organise a date for you to undertake this training as part of your enrolment. To complete first aid you must complete pre-course work at least three (3) days before the practical class and attend the practical class and complete all required assessments during the class.

Intake and fees
We provide intakes for the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care throughout the year, depending on interest. This course is a prerequisite for the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
