YWCA Canberra’s They Leads Conference is a dynamic one-day event aimed at inspiring and empowering LGBTQIA+ youth and their allies in Years 9-12. They Leads Conference features engaging talks, panels, and interactive sessions on inclusive leadership, community impact, and the unique challenges and opportunities for young LGBTQIA+ leaders.
ABOUT
They Leads Conference is a transformative event tailored for young queer individuals, providing a unique platform for empowerment, education, and community-building. By fostering an inclusive environment, the conference allows attendees to connect with like-minded peers, share their experiences, and gain insights from diverse leaders within the queer community. These connections are vital, offering not just a sense of belonging but also inspiring personal growth and resilience. The importance of such gatherings lies in their ability to cultivate supportive networks, amplify marginalised voices, and drive positive change, both personally and collectively.
They Leads features:
- Uplifting keynotes from local prominent LGBTQIA+ young leaders
- Engaging panel conversations that invite students to join the discussion
- Entertainment from local LGBTQIA+ artists as well as creative activities throughout the day
- An intersectional approach unpacking how LGBTQIA+ young people can break through barriers to embark on their unique leadership journey
Ticket Inclusions
A ticket to our event includes:
- A full day program that includes interactive workshops, keynote speeches and a panel discussion
- Morning tea, lunch and an afternoon snack
- Activity booklet
Photography consent forms
Each student needs to sign and complete a photography consent form and schools need to email these forms to the She Leads team before the event.
Dietary and accessibility requirements
Schools must inform the She Leads team of any dietary or accessibility requirements no later than Thursday 12 September for it to be accommodated.

This is a school excursion. All students must attend with their teachers/school supervisors or get permission from both their school and guardian to attend the event by themself.
