YWCA Canberra was named Large Employer of the Year at this year’s ACT Training Awards, held at the National Gallery of Australia and attended by more than 250 people. The event brought together nominees, sector leaders, and supporters, all celebrating organisations and individuals making a real difference through skills and training in our community.

It was inspiring to see so many talented finalists across categories that highlight the breadth and impact of vocational education and training (VET) in the ACT. From emerging trainees and apprentices to innovative employers and dedicated training providers, each award category showcased the commitment, creativity, and ambition across the sector. Finalists demonstrated how VET helps build skilled, adaptable communities. Their achievements and leadership really show the strength of our Canberra workforce.

This recognition means a lot to us. With almost 400 staff, including more than 325 working in children’s services, our commitment to learning and leadership is built into everything we do. Our team is diverse, passionate, and always looking for ways to grow. As Canberra’s only organisation holding the WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality Citation, we are proud of how we support staff from all walks of life.
“Congratulations to the entire YWCA Canberra team! Your dedication and passion for driving positive change and supporting our communities is truly inspiring. This success is a testament to the power of teamwork, and we’re all incredibly proud to be part of such an inclusive organisation-one that not only embraces every individual but also openly celebrates their contributions. Well done, everyone! Keep up the amazing work”
-Daisy Ulain, Early Childhood Education and Care Trainer Assessor
Growth opportunities are a top priority, whether through a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education, a Diploma, or our She Leads leadership program. These pathways help our team build expertise and confidence and give them the chance to take their careers further.
Investing in training has delivered:
- Staff who are equipped to take on new challenges and adapt to changing needs
- Real career development from trainee through to director in children’s services
- Higher retention and satisfaction because our training fits real needs
- Stronger leadership skills across YWCA Canberra
- Communication skills that keep evolving, so staff can better support our clients
Winning this award reflects the effort and dedication of our team and our valued partners in the vocational education and training sector. We congratulate this year’s other winners and finalists and thank the ACT Training Awards team for highlighting the difference that lifelong learning can make.
