Today we launched YWCA Canberra’s latest innovative job skills program to train people to work in Canberra’s childhood education and care sector: Educate, Inspire, Excel (EIE).
EIE gives Canberrans the opportunity to study and work in childhood education and care in a supportive, inclusive environment.
YWCA Canberra Chief Executive Officer, Frances Crimmins, said that “the COVID-19 crisis has clearly demonstrated what we already knew: that this industry is vital to our community and our economy.”
Over two years, YWCA Canberra will support participants to secure a job in children’s services and complete a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or Certificate IV in School Age Education and Care.
“We will give participants work readiness and on-the-job training, and provide any social, health, housing or wellbeing support they might need through our community services,” Ms Crimmins said. “Upon graduation, participants will have the skills, knowledge and confidence to take their career to the next level.”
Priority for the program is given to young people and mature aged women, including woman-identifying people, and non-binary people.
“Through this program,” Ms Crimmins said, “we can help young people, older women and the childhood education and care sector, all of whom are among the worst impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.”
Students can enrol at any time with training beginning from September 2020.
“With a range of partner agencies across Canberra already on board, we are excited to help Canberrans, especially young people and mature age women, take the first step in their childhood education and care careers,” Ms Crimmins said.
