YWCA Canberra is a leading provider in the community services sector with over 400 staff. We are proud to once again be awarded the Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA). YWCA Canberra has held this citation continuously since 2014.
The positive gender pay gap at YWCA Canberra reflects our efforts to continually improve our workplace to address biases and promote equitable practices across all levels of our workforce. By prioritising non-discrimination and equality in our Enterprise Agreement and workplace policies, we have not only closed the gap in our workplace but surpassed it.
CEO of YWCA Canberra, Frances Crimmins states:
”We’ve now held this citation for 13 years in a row. The citation demonstrates our willingness to take tangible steps to improve our workplace for all staff and showcase our efforts to our employers. We support reforms to the WGEA reporting framework which has published the pay gaps of employers who report to the Agency and hope this leads to stronger efforts to improve workplace gender equality”.
“Our new Enterprise Agreement showcases our commitment to equality and non-discrimination. We proudly pay our Early Educators above the Award and offer paid parental leave on commencement and flexible work arrangements for our staff. These policies and practices are important in female-dominated workplace such as the community sector and the early education sector”.

Gender equality is at the heart of what we do and have done at YWCA Canberra for over 90 years. We strive for a world where all workplaces promote gender equality and employees have equitable pay, conditions, access to promotion and lack of discrimination.
At YWCA Canberra, we are working to address some of the factors that lead to the gender pay gap through our community through our advocacy work on a range of gendered issues.
We help overcome workplace discrimination and bias by developing women’s leadership skills through the She Leads program and our Board Traineeships. YWCA Canberra also developed Work Respect, a social enterprise aimed at preventing sexual harassment in the workplace, and helps organisations comply with positive duty to achieve gender equality.
