Canberra, ACT – YWCA Canberra has officially launched “Plate Up, Canberra,” urging Canberrans to donate to the Lanyon Food Hub which will be used to provide gift cards to support the growing number of community members living with food insecurity. With the cost-of-living crisis worsening, individuals from a range of backgrounds are seeking emergency assistance at unprecedented rates. According to data from YWCA Canberra’s Annual Report, the past financial year saw 70 new members join the Lanyon Food Hub, bringing the total to 375 members — a record increase as more people turn to the service for essential support.
“Plate Up, Canberra” comes at a critical time, as the holiday season often places additional financial strain on families. By donating, Canberrans can help empower individuals with the freedom of choice to select food and household items that meet their unique needs. Each card affords families the dignity of choice and the independence to create their perfect holiday, without judgement.
“This initiative enables us to respond to the urgent needs of our community in real-time,” said YWCA Canberra CEO Frances Crimmins. “The rising cost of living has driven many more people to our doors, whom have never needed support. Through Plate Up, Canberra, we can provide essential support for those facing tough times.”
YWCA Canberra invites Canberrans to donate today and make a difference in the lives of families and individuals across the region. Donations can be made through the YWCA Canberra website or the ”Plate Up, Canberra” website, and every contribution will help ensure that those in need have access to the essentials they deserve during the holiday season.
Donate today to “Plate Up, Canberra” and help make this holiday season brighter for those in need.
