YWCA Canberra has just received its 2023 Workplace Gender Equality (WGEA) Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) citation, having being recognised annually as an employer of choice for women since 2011.
This year represents the fourth year in a row as the only ACT-based organisation to receive the citation.
The Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation recognizes organisations that have made gender equality an integral component of their workplaces and business practices, and are taking significant action towards improving gender equality outcomes.
“I’m really proud that YWCA Canberra has once again received this recognition and the citation.
Every year we evaluate our gender equality strategy in terms of leadership, accountability, we actively encourage our staff to take parental leave, support flexible working arrangements and pay equity, and we work to promote and engage in conversations in our community that promote gender equality.
I’m particularly proud of the fact that in order for our citation to be renewed, we must have met and exceeded our requirements from the previous year. That means that every year, we have to do better on gender equality.
My question for all organisations in the ACT, as we head into another International Womens’ Day for 2023, what are you doing to address gender equality. Why is the YWCA Canberra as a local not-for-profit employer of around 300 people, still the only ACT-based organisation to be recognized for acting on gender equality?”
At YWCA Canberra, we believe that gender equality is a fundamental human right, and this year for International Women’s Day 2023, we call on all organisations to address the gender pay gap” said CEO, Frances Crimmins.
The EOCGE program is voluntary, so other organisations could meet the standards, but must put in the effort to review and evaluate their gender equality strategies which encourage leadership and accountability. It is additional to the compliance reporting programing requiring non-public sector emloyers with 100 or more employees to submit a report to WGEA.
The YWCA Canberra supports and WGEA’s aims to increase workplace rights for all genders, reduce the gender pay gap, and work towards having a community whereby all can access the same rewards and opportunities regardless of gender.
