YWCA Canberra is proud to announce that we have been awarded Large Employer of the Year at the 2025 ACT Training Awards, held last night at the National Museum of Australia.
The ACT Training Awards are the peak national awards recognising excellence in the VET and skills sector. The awards highlight the outstanding contributions of individuals, businesses and registered training organisations (RTOs) who are demonstrating best practice in Vocational Educational Training (VET).
This honour builds on our standing as the only Canberra organisation to hold the Employer of Choice for Gender Equality Citation. With close to 400 passionate staff – including nearly 325 children’s services staff.
YWCA Canberra is committed to creating a workplace where staff can continue to learn, grow, and lead. Through nationally recognised qualifications such as the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education, the Diploma in Early Childhood Education, and our own She Leads Diploma, we equip staff with the professional knowledge and leadership skills they need to excel.
YWCA Canberra’s investment in professional development has delivered outstanding outcomes, including:
- Increased productivity and staff well-being, with employees equipped with the skills and knowledge to adapt to changing needs.
- Career development pathways that support progression from Trainee to Director in Children’s Services.
- Enhanced staff retention and satisfaction through tailored training opportunities.
- Stronger leadership across the organisation through the She Leads Diploma of Leadership and Management.
- Improved communication skills, enabling staff to better support the diverse needs of our clients.
“We are honoured to be recognised as ACT Large Employer of the Year at the ACT Training Awards. At YWCA Canberra, we believe that investing in our people is the key to delivering lasting impact in the community. This award reflects the commitment of our staff to continuous learning and the strength of our partnerships across the vocational education and training sector.”
– Cara Jacobs, Acting Chief Executive Officer, YWCA Canberra
The ACT Training Awards highlight the achievements of individuals, employers, and training organisations that contribute to building a skilled and adaptable workforce in the ACT.
